(Re)Collective Company specializing in collaborative performance and teaching.
Mission Statement:
“To utilize our skills in musical composition and dance to entertain audiences and educate students in the art of combining multiple disciplines through respect, collaboration and self expression.”
Company Overview
The (Re)Collective Company is about artists sharing their journey together in collaboration. Dancers, musicians, and visual artists combine their disciplines to exhibit the power we each hold by willingly moving into, around and beyond the talents we
possess alone, demonstrating that there is so much more than just movement or music, but layers upon layers of discovery.
The (Re) Collective Company consists of accomplished musicians, classically trained dancers, artists and educators. The musicians and dancers rely heavily on one another for the energy and inspiration that each one emanates during the performance and uses that inspiration to engage the audience in a way that can only be described as “Moved”. (Re) Collective Company is built from a foundation of community oriented members who believe the audience’s role is as significant as the performers.
The (Re) Collective Company’s music is comprised of all original pieces that use strong rhythms from around the world (West Africa, Latin America, Middle Eastern and Western) and combines them with the beautiful and sometimes haunting sounds of cello and guitar. All pieces are written using the feedback and input of the dancers, giving the process a three dimensional approach and feel.Because the pieces are performed live, each night has its own unique variations depending on the artist/artist and artist/audience dynamic. This variable is what makes The (Re)Collective Company so special.

Company Philosophy
The collaborating artists involved in The (Re)Collective Company work together on a piece where everyone contributes from their particular art, be it movement, drums, instrumental or vocal, demonstrating that there is more than just movement or music, but layers upon layers of discovery when artists collaborate across disciplines.
“The (Re)Collective Company combines tightly composed choreography and musical arrangements with splashes of inspired improvisation that can captivate any audience. The haunting string section weaves through the worldly percussion arrangements and hip-hop-tinged spoken word, all perfectly in tune to the movements of the classically-trained yet daring dancers.”
"To perform and teach the art of self expression and collaboration through music and dance."
“…what makes us different is the fact that each of us is open to using the sights and sounds around us to influence how we express that particular moment in music and dance. Yes we are working within composed music and dance, but we are not limited topre-recorded compositions, thus allowing us to move organically through a piece based on each artist's interpretation of that one particular moment….”
Choreography
The (Re)Collective Company’s choreography draws upon a variety of dance styles. Jaclyn Virgin’s use of air and floor guide these elements allowing room for expression during the original musical compositions. The choreography is influenced by classical modern, African dance, ballet, jazz and Yoga, allowing space for improvisation within the flowing arrangements. Each dancer participates within the choreography, applying their style to a piece. The movement is forever changing and developing encouraging the dancers to move outside the box, while creating something new as a whole.
